Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Westmorland School Gym Groundbreaking! 💚💛🏗️ This project has been years in the making, with so many people playing a part along the way. So much happens behind the scenes to make something like this possible, and we are grateful to have such a great team working together to make it happen. It was especially meaningful to have some of those who helped along the way there to see years of hard work finally come to fruition. Our Roadrunners are SUPER excited for their new gym, and we know it will benefit our students and the entire Westmorland community for years to come. A special thank you to our neighboring cities and community partners who came out to celebrate this milestone with us. We truly appreciate you showing up and supporting our community and our Roadrunners! 💚💛

🏗️ Gymnasium Project Update

Attached are updated English and Spanish snapshots showing the gymnasium’s anticipated completion date of November 2027.

Issues that delayed the start of construction shifted the timeline. Construction began in August 2026, rather than the anticipated April 2026 start.

🏫 Westmorland Gymnasium Project: From Planning to Construction

Have questions about the gymnasium and its progress? We’ve created a project timeline showing the earlier bond attempts, voter-approved funding, design and state approval, changes in construction costs, and upcoming milestones.

The timeline also explains what bond funds have been spent on and why, the cost reductions involving restrooms, bleachers, basketball hoops, landscaping, and paving, and the role of independent audits and citizen oversight.

The ELOP Modular Building is funded separately with ELOP funds—not Measure W or Z bond funds.

🚲🛴 Helmet Safety Reminder 🪖
Westmorland Families: We are seeing students riding bikes, scooters, e-bikes, and e-scooters to school without helmets. Please remember that District policy requires students to wear helmets, and California law requires riders under 18 to wear a helmet when riding a bicycle. Our policy also requires students to walk their bikes and scooters once they are on campus. Policy 5142.033 ^Electric Bic…

We have notified the Westmorland Police Department, and officers will also be on the lookout for students riding without helmets and for unsafe riding.

Please help us keep our Roadrunners safe by making sure your child wears a properly fitted helmet every time they ride to and from school. 💙💛

🚻 Helping Our Students Learn Good Restroom Habits
Westmorland Families,
We are asking for your help reinforcing proper restroom habits with our students.
Recently, we have had some students who are still learning the difference between using a urinal and using a toilet stall. To help, we are placing simple visual reminders in our boys’ restrooms and reviewing restroom expectations with students at school.
We are also sharing a short Bathroom Social Story with families. We encourage you to read through it with your child at home and review these important reminders:
💧 Pee goes in the urinal.
🚽 Poop goes in the toilet in a stall.
🧻 Wipe yourself with toilet paper.
🚿 Flush when you are finished.
🧼 Wash your hands with soap and water.
⭐ Help keep our school restrooms clean and respectful for everyone.
For some of our younger students, these routines are still being learned, and consistent reminders at both school and home can make a big difference.

🚻 Ayudando a Nuestros Estudiantes a Aprender Buenos Hábitos en el Baño
Familias de Westmorland:
Estamos pidiendo su apoyo para reforzar con nuestros estudiantes el uso apropiado de los baños.
Recientemente, hemos tenido algunos estudiantes que todavía están aprendiendo la diferencia entre usar un urinario y usar un inodoro dentro de un cubículo. Para ayudar, colocaremos recordatorios visuales sencillos en los baños de los niños y repasaremos con los estudiantes las expectativas para el uso del baño en la escuela.
También estamos compartiendo con las familias un breve Cuento Social sobre el Uso del Baño. Los animamos a leerlo con sus hijos en casa y repasar estos importantes recordatorios:
💧 El pipí va en el urinario.
🚽 El popó va en el inodoro dentro del cubículo.
🧻 Límpiate con papel higiénico.
🚿 Jala la palanca cuando termines.
🧼 Lávate las manos con agua y jabón.
⭐ Ayuda a mantener los baños de nuestra escuela limpios y respetuosos para todos.
Para algunos de nuestros estudiantes más pequeños, estas rutinas todavía se están aprendiendo. Los recordatorios constantes tanto en la escuela como en casa pueden hacer una gran diferencia.

We are proud to partner with the Imperial County Office of Education’s Bullying & School Violence Advocacy Program to collaborate and provide resources and support for our 4th–8th grade students. Our students recently participated in a presentation where they learned about the program and discussed different aspects of bullying, including awareness and prevention. We look forward to continuing this partnership and working together to support our students and promote a safe and positive school environment. A special thank you to Ms. Quintero for visiting our school, presenting to our students, and partnering with us!
